Equity Research Initiative, the flagship program of Mentored Research, is a 4 week training-cum-internship program designed to help participants in the art of smart and analytical investing. This is done by dealing with an application-based approach to analysis of securities. In operations since 2010; many participants from IITs, NITs, BITS Pilani, Delhi University, Mumbai University, and other colleges of repute have taken part in this program. Participants are taught how to analyze businesses and their respective sectors, screen for comparable companies, read financial statements, use ratio analysis techniques, and construct valuation models. With committed mentors guiding you through the program; dedicated support is provided through carefully designed resource material, in sync with common industry practices. Participants are also given the opportunity to interact and network with individuals with industry exposure via interactive webinars.

Equity Research is the process of analyzing a publicly listed company’s financials, performing ratio analysis, forecasting the financials (valuation) and exploring scenarios with an objective of making BUY/SELL stock investment recommendation. Equity Research plays a very critical role that fills the information gap for the buyers of shares. Also, equity research tries to identify the value stocks out of the massive ocean of stocks and help the buyers to generate profits.

Program Structure

The program takes place in 4 phases - you start with the basics of finance and MS Excel, then you will tackle the fundamental and ratio analysis of the assigned company, post which the valuation model of the stock is built. At the end of this analysis, a stock pitch is crafted by the participant, summarizing the findings and making an investment recommendation. Building on the theoretical aspects, the program focuses on the practical hands-on learning and the networking opportunities.
